This document shows part of the planning process for a project my class completed this semester. Students were divided into groups of three. Each group was to plan and create a 30 second commercial. Before the project started we watched several commercials and discussed the message of each commercial.

Advertising is an area that students are very familiar with and interested in, however they may not always be aware of the message being conveyed. By beginning the project with examples and a discussion of the examples, the students discover that sometimes commercials are not selling a specific product and sometimes they are not selling what they appear to be selling. The project therefore begins with an introduction to digital/video literacy and proceeds to the creation of a commercial using several technology tools. These include online planning tools, online script-writing tools, video equipment, and video editing software for the final production. The students learn about project planning, collaboration with others, and the technology tools used in a way that makes them enjoy the learning process.
